5 out of 5 stars Love My Kindle   December 3, 2008

I was prepared not to like the Kindle, made sure I saved my receipt, etc. I just adore books, hardcover, paperbacks, as a matter of fact, my floor to ceiling bookcases are bursting with them. Classics, fiction, I love to read. Much to my surprise this was the best gift I've ever received, it's for a true book lover. My favorite time is spent reading the first chapters of a book I might buy, plus the price of the books are so economical making my purchase a true bargain. Reading this lightweight wonder is easy on the eyes and wrists, give yourself the joy of reading with this wonderful new addition to your life. Be a Kindler!

4 out of 5 stars This time they got it right   December 3, 2008

I purchased an RCA eBook several years ago. Our local library loaned them out and I was so struck by this device I bought one. Shortly after my purchase the eBook was no longer supported by RCA. Along comes the Kindle and after my purchase I realize the Kindle did a number of things right:

1. Being able to buy books with a wireless connection. A definite plus.
2. Major price break for Kindle customers. Buy 15-20 books and the Kindle pays for itself.
3. Size and weight factor. The RCA eBook is a brick compared to the Kindle.
4. Easy access to the battery.

My wife and I enjoy our Kindle. Amazon delivered ahead of schedule and we were delighted. Improvements like a touch screen would be nice but there's always v 2.0 just around the corner. Can a trade-in program be in the works?

I very much enjoy my kindle. I have had many occasions to take it with me and do some reading. What I enjoy most about it is that i have 5-8 books on it at any one time and maybe a couple of magazines and a newspaper or two. One device, multiple reading choices. That is the power of the Kindle.

1 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE- FRAGILE - AMAZON WILL NOT GIVE A DAMN   December 2, 2008

I love my Kindle. That being said, it is poorly designed considering how fragile it is. The cover is not made to hold it securely, and if you don't use the cover, you are holding the actual Kindle with buttons on both sides that you do not want to touch for fear of losing your page. Hence, I kept it in the non-secure cover and yesterday it slipped out and dropped two feet onto the carpet, game over. Lines appeared on the screen, I called support and they "graciously" (total sarcasm) replaced it for a mere $180 (does not include shipping). I was told the wires are very delicate, so why not warn people? Why not make a cover that holds the Kindle securely?! The cover is AWFUL!!! I had it only three months and Amazon took me for the initial $359 plus now the additional $180 dollars. I think Amazon has lost site of it's customer base. I actually despise them at this point. NEVER DROP OR IT AND YOU ARE TOAST.
