3 out of 5 stars 3-1/2 stars -- Decent, but really just your typical Spanglish album   February 28, 2008

I first heard of Kat DeLuna when she and Omarion shared the song "Cut Off Time" off the Feel the Noise soundtrack. Since very few people picked up that soundtrack or even heard of the movie, I doubted that she'd have much staying power. But I still decided to check out her album 9 Lives.

Kat DOES have a good voice, but the only song that really stands out on here is "Love Me, Leave Me". While most of the rest of the songs are above-average, they don't really make her stand out in a crowd either. The Elephant Man-assisted "Whine Up" could have easily been done by Nina Sky, while "Run the Show" or "Enjoy Saying Goodbye" have Shakira written all over them. I'm not saying that Kat is trying to emulate these artists, but that's just how things look at face value.

There are also a couple of songs I can do without: the empty "Am I Dreaming" and the corny "Animal". And unsurprisingly, the end of the album features Spanish versions of earlier songs on the album ("Whine Up", "Am I Dreaming" and "Run the Show"). If you're a fan of club music or Latin pop, then pick 9 Lives up; otherwise, B.I.F.

4 out of 5 stars Very Very good   December 17, 2007
She has a beautiful, powerful voice that invites you to listen and the songs are even better because of the melody that is so catchy and energetic. I bought it as a gift for my sister, I wasn't very interested at first to be honest but when we played the cd WOW, my favorite song is "Am I Dreaming". I fell in love immediately and haven't stop singing it since I first heard it!

GREAT ENERGY. GOOD SONG WRITING. SHE doesn't have a really good voice though. For instance, you could NOT even compare her voice to Selena's.

5 out of 5 stars Nice New Talent   October 22, 2007
Kat DeLuna: nice to have new young talent that I appreciated the first time I heard the music. I believe that after only just two listens I will come to have every song on the album my favorite. It has a nice selection for dancing/exercising - that's important to me, because that means that the album has 'vibes', and I will be listening to it often. She doesn't have to "grow" on me, she has a fan. I'm looking forward to the rest of her other 5 albums with Epic. Anyone who has sense to team up with Elephant Man will always get my attention.
Her voice reminds me of Christina Aguilera (as in Love Confusion), and in Am I Dreaming- she reminds me of Selena - you can say it's the name of the track of you want.

Go ahead Kat, don't disappoint later, or become a one album wonder.

Fun tracks include:
Run the Show (feat. Shakka Dee) - cus it has a dancehall artist and feel to it along with a Latin vibe.
Whine Up (feat. Elephant man) - again same reason as above
In The End - in the beginning it sounds just like Whine Up (actually the beat is very similar, but not as invigorating)
Animal - has drums and a neat, jungle, conga, rhythm to it.

I think you'll enjoy it, go ahead, get it.

5 out of 5 stars Proud Such A HUGE Talent Comes From the Dominican Republic!!!   October 14, 2007

This girl has it all. Gorgeous voice, well-thought lyrics, killer beats, and unbeliavable charisma and energy. This album is by far the best album I have purchased this year. It is unbelievable a voice this huge comes from such a tiny person. You go Kat! You're going to take this industry by storm!

1-"Run The Show" (5/5) - Wonderful beat, cool lyrics, great voice. This is one of those songs that makes you want to get up and dance.

2-"Am I Dreaming" (10/5) - This is my favorite song on the album. Beautiful vocals with a wonderful bachata and reggae-like beat as a background. The lyrics are simple but very heartfelt. This girl is simply wonderful!

3-"Whine Up" (4/5) - The song that got all of the "Kat hype" started. Cool beat and great lyrics.

4-"Feel What I Feel" (5/5) - Another favorite of mine. This song is just about loving what music does to you and enjoying every minute of it. Being an avid music lover myself, I indentified with this song immediately. Love her lyrics and awesome beat.

5-"Love Me, Leave Me" (5/5) - I absolutely adore this song. It's the only ballad on the album, which is a shame since her voice is awesome and flawless in this song. This is another song I definitely related to. Simple, but deep lyrics make this song a winner in my book.

6-In The End" (4/5) - A song about ending up with the person you least expected. Very cute song and very nice vocals.

7-"Love Confusion" (4/5) - A good song with great ad-libbing. Her vocals are amazing in this song.

8-"Animal" (4/5) - This song is very different compared to all of the other tracks. In this song she takes a risk by singing about being wild and fierce like an animal. Awesome beat and great vocals make this song what it is... great!

9-"Be Remembered" (5/5) - I love this song. It talks about not settling for whatever comes your way, but instead focusing on trying to be recognized and remembered. Great lyrics, vocals and beat.

10-"Enjoy Saying Goodbye" (5/5) - This lady showcases her amazing voice in this song. In the small pause between the end of the first verse and the second verse, you can notice the pure talent this girls holds. She is just wonderful. The message in this song is also incredible. The beat is insane in this song. It's just an overall fantastic song!

**"Como Un Sueno(Spanish)" (10/5) - I love this version of this song more than the original. The lyrics are very well translated and her voice is just awesome.

Overall, I have to say Kat won me over with her beautiful voice and indescribable talent. This CD shows she is here to last. This is a girl with pure talent, not just a hot body and cool dance moves. Eres un orgullo para nosotros los Dominicanos! Love you Kat!!!!
