Product Description The BDP-S350 models support BonusView (picture-in-picture) featured on some of the Blu-ray Disc theatrical releases. The BDP-S350 models are BD-Live ready featuring an Ethernet port for an easy firmware update and access to Internet-based interactive content features. They also feature an external port for local storage, so users can add optional flash-based memory. The players feature 1080/60p and 24p True Cinema output. They are compatible with most standard DVDs and feature 1080p upscaling through an HDMI connection to capable HDTV sets, improving the picture performance of existing DVD libraries. The BDP-S350 models offer 7.1 channel Dolby TrueHD and Dolby digital plus decoding and bit-stream output, as well as dts-HD high resolution audio and master audio bit-stream output. The players support AVCHD discs encoded with x.v.Color (xvYCC) technology, an international standard for wide color space reproduction. The standard expands the current data range of video by about 1.8 times, allowing the players to output more natural and vivid colors similar to what the human eye can actually see. The players also feature compatibility with an array of video formats, including BD-R/RE (BDMV and BDAV modes), DVD+R/+RW, DVD-R/-RW (video mode), CD, CD-R/RW (CD-DA format), and JPEG on DVD/CD recordable media.

Blu Ray is ok not revolutionary November 23, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Switching from 1080i to 1080p was not such a big deal as I thought. Blu Ray movies look good but not so revolutionary over normal 1080i movies. If you are upgrading from standard TVs and standard DVD players that are none HD, you will see a huge improvement but if you all ready have 1080i HD equipment you will not notice a difference. I am kind of bummed that all the video stores only carry a limited number of Blu ray movies to rent and the the good movies are always checked out so you end up renting regular DVD movies to watch on a Blu Ray player. The Sony Blu ray player works as it should, quiet, loads up longer than regular dvd players but does as advertised. Save your money if you already have 1080i equipment and spend it on something else this christmas. I spent big bucks buying a new 1080p 50 inch Panasonic plasma and this Blu Ray player to see if it was worth it and in my opinion it is not.
Decent Player for the $$ November 23, 2008 My first Blu-Ray player.
Pros: Plays my DVDs and the 2 Blu-Ray discs that I have w/o any problems. Great picture for both Blu-Ray and upscaled normal DVDs. Sound is solid. Network connectivity built-in so it could upgrade its firmware w/o use of flash drives, etc.
Cons: Super-Slow startup.....extremely annoying but I understand this currently "normal" for Blu-Ray players. Still, you would think that you could press "Open/Close" while the player is booting up....nope. Nor can you simply press "Play" to make the disc drawer close and play a disc. Very annoying indeed. Had problems playing at least one burned DVD but none that I burned, just a friend's disc. Remote control is fairly typical to normal Sony products...this means that they're poor and I will expect it to fail within a couple of years even though I'm very careful w/ my equipment.
BOTTOM LINE: I like the size of the player (slim and not very deep), great image, great sound. Average setup and remote. Poor start-up times.
Great player great price November 23, 2008 I've been waiting for this generation of player and I am glad I did. The old slow performance and oversize boxes are done. Great picture, unbelievable sound. One easy download and player was updated to Blu-ray 2.0 standard.
Way to go Sony, keep that price low Amazon.
AWESOME!!!!! November 20, 2008 I got this as a deal with the SOny Bravia 1080p LCD 52 inch TV. I thought whats the big difference. But I was wrong...I was totally blown away by the picture quality...I still dint know if it had to do with the TV more or the Bly ray player more. But when the I compared the blu ray player with my philips dvd player...I realised what I had been missing out on. The only drawback BLU RAY discs as lil expensive....Either ways!!!!!!! Love it Love It Love It!!!!!
BD350 November 19, 2008 This is my first Blu-Ray and I love it. Boots a little slow but I expected that. Picture and sound are awesome. I used HDMI connection so there is nothing to hooking it up.
