Big Disappointment! December 2, 2008 I had high hopes for this product with the download ability, and I figured this was a great advancement in radar detectors.
However, I was very wrong! Escort said in order to do the 90 days worth of downloads, I would have to purchase two more items from them. I can not believe after spending this much for a radar detector I would have to purchase more items for this radar detector.
After 90 days, Escort "milks" customers for more money by asking them to buy more downloads. This is frankly ridiculous!
The worst part of it is, the downloads are very difficult to do. Instead of making them easy, Escort made the process extremely convoluted and time-consuming! I tried it on my laptop in my car, but it took so long and was so uncomfortable that I decided to cough up the money to buy their download equipment. Furthermore, because of the time needed my laptop battery died.
To add insult to injury, Escort controls most of the radar market since it also owns Bel. Their main competitor is Valentine.
I truly regret the purchase of this equipment as it seems like Escort was more interested in "milking" customers for more money, rather than making a great product. Finally, I have had numerous false alerts with this product which is unconscionable considering the price!
Passport 9500ix November 26, 2008 Replaced a Passport 8500 X50, and have been training the ix in the various parking lot exits and nearby towns, and freeways. It is as sensitive as the X50, and now remembers all the fixed radars near where I live. I think it is a great product to have when you are tired and coming home, or setting out early in the morning.
Worth the price. November 23, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is by far the best radar detector I have ever owned. Trust me you won't be disappointed.
Best detector I've ever owned November 15, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The 9500ix is the perfect radar detector. It's quiet, has great sensitivity, and alerts to Red Light Cameras.
I have used, in order, the Passport 8500, Passport 8500 X50, Valentine One, Passport 8500 X50 Rev. 5, and now the 9500ix. The 9500ix beats them hands down.
Why? It has great range, seems to have a sixth sense for cop radar, alerts to Red Light Cameras (which are a major hassle in my area ... the fine is over $400 each including fees), and it's quiet!
If you use a chatterbox V1 that makes you think your head is about to explode, give the 9500ix a try. You will be amazed how well a detector can work while still being super quiet.
Totally worth the expense! November 13, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Lets just say I was a bit skeptical when my dad, a lifelong Passport driver, told me to ditch my Cobra detector and buy the Passport 9500ix. Thinking he was just partial to what he knew, I asked him why I should spend so much more on this detector. After going through a laundry list of why (better radar detection, GPS technology, it saved him from a ticket on a recent drive to Columbus...) I relented. SO glad I did! As soon as the detector came in the mail, I opened the box and my immediate reaction was: SEXY! The 9500ix is way sleeker than my old clunky Cobra. As we all know, looks arent everything, and the 9500ix doesn't stop there. Mounting the detector to my windshield was easy, and I was off and on my way to see how well my new investment worked. The street I live on has a 90 degree curve where cops love to wait to pick off unsuspecting drivers. My old Cobra never picked up the signal going around the curve, but I was at least 750 feet away from the curve, and my new 9500ix has already alerted me to the cop--from around the curve! Not only did the 9500ix alert me with sound, the bright LED screen told me my exact speed I was going when it sensed the cop's radar, which instantly tells me if I need to slow down. Wow! It gets better from there: after only 2 days of driving around my neighborhood, no longer do I hear the chirps of X band as I go by Walgreens or Krogers, as the detector has locked out the signals. After driving for years with my old Cobra going off for every door opener around town, the silence on my detector is amazing--now when I hear the 9500ix go off, I immediately slow down and sure enough, yards away is a cop waiting to ticket an unsuspecting driver. From now on, the "unsuspecting driver" wont be me. If you dont want it to be you--get one now. You wont regret it.
