Product Description Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

Don't plan on taking breaks...You won't want to put this book down! July 20, 2008 I will try to be short and sweet (somewhat like my appearance!). I have yet to come up with adequate words for this book. I can tell you that I read it while on vacation and finished it in about two days. I took breaks to play with my children and family, but I had my nose back in 'The Shack' as soon as I could! I found the story instantly engaging and all the time wondering, "Did this really happen?" Young's description and characterization of the Trinity is a refreshing change. No man, or woman, can truly capture all of who God is, but this book definitely provides the reader with a good start and brightens the vision of those of us who have known the Lord for awhile.
I hope it's plain to see that I highly recommend this book. There are not many books I read more than once, but I plan on going back through it to experience again the fuller picture of God that I now have because of a humble servant like William Young.
Excellent, Just Excellent! July 20, 2008 This book was highly recommended by a good friend, for months. I was reluctant to buy it because it sounded so "strange". The story IS strange. However, it is outstanding!! I now understand the Trinity (God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit) more than I ever realized I could grasp the relationships and roles of all three entities. Readers should go into this with an open mind (NOT legalistic, NOT with pre-conceived "religious" viewpoints). Just read it with an open mind and while yes, it is "strange", it is also such a fantastic source. It is, in reality, very scripturally based regarding the roles of all three- God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit and will enlighten the reader to the role, and freedom-all offer us. I have to respectfully disagree with those bashing this book. It is clearly fiction, we all get that. But, it provides a God-view of forgiving and judging (our judging others). And yes, while the Bible is our main source, God's word and gift to us, this book DOES support the Biblical stance of the Trinity, forgiving, grace, and most importantly love. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!
Read the Bible July 20, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you want to understand and know the true nature and character of God then read the Bible with a broken and repentant heart and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal God the Father to you in the Name of God the Son through the power of God the Holy Spirit..The Shack is one man's opinion of God and does not even come close to the true revealed nature of God revealed in the scriptures...Be like Paul in Phillipians 3:10 and pray that I may know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings...Man's opinion outside the scriptures always ends up being politically correct and watered down...That's what happened to Dan Brown in The DaVinci Code and dare I say to "Christian" authors like Joel Osteen and Rick Warren....
A Book that Will Change Your Life July 20, 2008 I am not fond of fiction. Therefore, when a friend suggested we do a study club together on The Shack, I was wary. Was I in for a surprise! This has been the best inspiration I have had in years. What a way with descriptive words. Young has an unbelievable ability to bring deep theological concepts into practical language. WOW! Do I feel loved and forgiven. I am changed forever. You can't believe it 'til you try if for yourself. I have told at least 40 people to read this. Try it; you won't be able to put it down.
NOT a book of theology...it is a book of art July 20, 2008 This book was not written to discuss theology or even religion. It was written to show how God pursues us despite our hurts and sometimes anger to demonstrate His great love for us. This book shows how our preconceived notions of God (many based on man-contrived religions)are inaccurate and hinder our forming the kind of relationship He so desires to have with us. To look at this book through theological or religious eyes causes us to miss out on the intent and delight of what is related through this marvelous account of one man's struggles, healing and subsequent joy. Enjoy the book for what it is intended...a book to demonstrate His great love for us.
