Nice Author, Hidden Gem November 19, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this novel at a book signing and found the book and author refreshingly genuine, down-to-earth and really nice. I mean nice in the sense that this book reminds you of an innocence and sweetness from America's heartland. As the tagline states, this novel does read like a romantic comedy. Fun reading because the characters resemble people we know and read about in the tabloids, but delves deeper. I also like the great shopping tips found in the book, and the references to Neiman Marcus's invaluable personal shopper program (which I have used before especially for those hard-to-find gifts!) You really have to pick up this book and read it to get an appreciation for it. I did and am recommending it to my book club.
GET YOUR TISSUES, GIRLS January 21, 2005 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
A debut novel which threads fairy tale with modern day charm. Told through Cynthia Sanders' journaling, the story of a Cinderella, who has missed her calling in youth, emerges. A sweet story that gives the Cinderella story a new twist. Since I don't write reviews for books I don't feel deserve a 4 or 5 star, I'm going to say I love this book.
I Loved This Cinderella Story with a Fashion Twist October 19, 2004 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
Cynthia, named after Cinderella, keeps a diary that chronicles her life as a singleton about to turn 30 and the sudden change in fortune she faces when her "fairy" hairstylist godmother grants her a wish: to become fashion stylist to the screen queen of romantic comedies, Francesca Fury. Soon Cynthia finds herself turning into the Cinderella she was named after and becoming a "Discount Donna". In the line of Bridget Jones Diary, this singleton is funny and desperately single, but not for the same reasons. Cynthia Sanders is the most level-headed singleton in any chick lit novels, but she finds herself in funny circumstances. Francesca Fury, as a warm heart benefactor to Cynthia, is one of the best characters to come around. I picture Julia Roberts or Catherine Zeta-Jones in the role. Just what I wanted - a Light-hearted romantic fare with a clever twist on a fairy tale I love.
