Transparent by Daniel Ost June 18, 2008 I really liked this book - I bought it as a gift and wanted to keep it for myself. It has sections in different languages (the same text repeated in different languages), but that doesn't detract at all from the pictures, none of which are repeated. They are stunningly beautiful. If you like glass and glass art, and avant-garde flower art, this is your book. Even if you don't have an avowed passion for either, it still has the power to amaze anyone who spends time at your coffee table.
An art book for the jaded. It will wake you up! May 29, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Daniel Ost is one of the most cutting edge artists of our day. He may be overlooked by the mainstream art world due to the ephemeral nature of his work--fresh flowers.
Actually, his choice of materials is more encompassing, but as it still largely consists of perishable vegetation, it is lost within days, if not hours.
For those who remain skeptical that floral design can indeed transcend craft and be rare and provocative, inspiring and controversial, buy this book. Better yet, try to see his work in person.
Beware, this book is not your garden variety, "ooh look at the pretty flowers" calendar art. It's a thoughtful collection of esoteric sculptures that are long gone. Like an opera on T.V., this book cannot do the works justice. But, to not see it is to lose out entirely on a great collection of art.
A must have for every Floral Designers April 25, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
