 I wish I had this book 20 years ago when I started my career... November 16, 2008
I have struggled over the years with my natural disposition to be a "nice guy" and my belief that it would ultimately be career limiting for me. Too often we read the stories of successful CEO's who made their reputations being hard as nails and running an organization through fear and intimidation. This book has lots of interviews with "nice guy" CEO's who made it to the top. Combine those success stories with some real life practical guidance you can use to help you succeed and still be a "nice guy".

I really enjoyed reading Mr. Edelman's insightful examination of "Nice Guys". The book has helped me to realize that my own professed "niceness" while being a potential business Achilles Heal, can be approprately re-directed so as to become a real asset.
The author's depth of reasearch, thoughtful choice of interviewees as well as nimbly written prose add up to a must read for serious Managers as well as CEOs.

No new thinking, ideas, suggestions, opportunities.
Weak recap of other work, somehow passed off as linked to "nice guys".
As a nice guy myself, this review is much stronger (and negative) than usual. Maybe I should change my rating?
No-nonsense, well balanced September 9, 2008
Great insights, the title catches you and the content keeps you reading. Good balance for the nice guy - doesn't give carte blanche to nice guys, but cautions those things that can derail the nice guy...you have to learn balance, firmness, discipline. Hope the jerks of the world read this and understand they can let up and be human and still be successful as well.

Nice Guy was an easy and excellent read, the principle strategies were right on target! Being able to see how some of the Top CEO's in our world today handle the everyday issues was extremely enlightening. This book is well worth the read to help assist in the day to day issues that we face.
Outstanding work!!!
