Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Commoditization is the gravitational force pulling competing products and services down to the same level, until price determines which company wins and loses customers. Beyond Price will teach readers how to innovate their business models to escape the gravity of commoditization and price-driven competition.

Business leaders will find immediate value in this systematic guide to transforming a company from one-of-many to one-of-a-kind, a company whose offerings competitors will find hard to copy and customers will feel excited to discover. A strategically differentiated business model, executed effectively, will create

  • Customers willing to pay a premium for a product
  • Long-term relationships with customers and suppliers
  • A collaborative environment focused on shared goals of where and how to win business
  • Faster decisions about how and when to pursue opportunities
  • Better resource leveraging through clear direction and focus

A well-defined roadmap to building a thriving business, Beyond Price identifies and integrates all the areas of change, beyond strategy, leaders must address to break out of and stay out of commodity competition.

Praise for Beyond Price:

'Change is continuous and accelerating; the old strategies don't cut it! Beyond Price provides leaders with a guide to both deal with this reality and build a high-growth business' --Richard Teerlink, retired chairman and CEO, Harley-Davidson

'Beyond Price provides pragmatic steps and principles all leadership teams should follow to avoid price-driven competition and to develop a differentiated position in the marketplace.' --Nick Meriggioloi, president, Oscar Mayer, a division of Kraft Foods

'Beyond Price is an amazing book that shows any leader how to think like a change agent and bring about a game-changing strategic shift. This book is a totally original approach to the dilemma of running a commodity business. Any business leader can put it to work without difficulty. This isn't a book of business platitudes; it's a book showing you how to ask a whole different set of questions about the business you are in to launch a new era of competitive strength and profitability.' --Robert Beeby, retired CEO, Frito-Lay; retired CEO, Pepsi-Cola International; retired CEO, Wilson Sporting Goods

Beyond Price provides solid analysis for business owners/managers who are looking for transformational models in today's increasingly global market place. The book was written so anybody can understand the steps you need to analyze your situation and create a new paradigm for your business. A very timely book for our rocky times.

5 out of 5 stars Avoid revenue stagnation by buying and following this book's advice   November 3, 2008

All industries, and all companies within those industries" have a life cycle ending in commoditization of their products or services. At that point, unless urgent steps are taken, sales stagnate, profits decrease and prospects for the future diminish greatly. This book -"Beyond Price" - presents a very precise, orderly and comprehensive process designed to give top management the tools to avoid the commoditization trap. I recommend it to all CEO;s whether or not they feel the impending pressure of maturing markets on their company's future.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Book!   October 28, 2008
This is a must read for business leaders! The authors give practical advice sharing wisdom that one acquires soley from experience. They connect conceptual dots and provide steps on how to apply the concepts toward business growth for any business. It is a "how to" book and the subtitle tells it all..."differentiate your company in ways that really matter."

This is an excellent resource for Chambers of Commerce and other business organizations to provide their members.

5 out of 5 stars Practical and useful   October 27, 2008

Overall the book makes complex information easy to read and understand. It includes an exceptional discussion of commodity markets. The introductory material on economic principles is very practical and useful for engaging middle-managers in strategic planning activities.

Beyond the introductory material, the strength of the book is that it provides a practical framework for how to grow a business. The book is about strategic planning and marketing, it is not a book that will help to fix an unstable operation or reduce costs.

Beyond Price is a more worthwhile resource than other similar books because it is grounded in a real-world approach that has actually been executed by the authors.

Kay Plantes succeeds in making a complex topic understandable with
practical approaches that anyone can understand and apply to advance
their organization. I have found many valuable ideas that can be
adapted to higher education where I work. All organizations need to
find ways to provide value to those they serve and distinguish themselves from the competition.
