5 out of 5 stars Nostalgic overview of the auto and American life   October 17, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Lavishly illustrated with archival photos, this book tells the story of the American love affair with the auto -- and how the auto affected the way we all live. The book starts late in the 19th century and tells the story of the "good roads movement," which led to the development of federal funding for paved roads; the development of tourist attractions and the tourism infrastructure (motels, gas stations, etc.); the growth of the family vacation; and many other things that have resulted from the American car culture. An interesting social history, with excellent photographs.
