This potion is all dried up! November 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There I was, on vacation in Southern California, an important soiree to attend, and I had forgotten several items from my make-up kit, including my eye primer. What's a Make-up Maven to do?
Fortunately, there was a Sephora in the mall near my hotel. The perky, heavily made, slightly snobbish salesgirl, (named Tiffany, but spelled with an ie, of course) suggested I buy Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Since it was not the brand I typically use, and Tiffanie's irridescent eyeshadow had clumped together to form a bluish-greenish cake in the middle of her lid, I was skeptical, to say the least.
Still, I liked the slender bottled, the fun packaging, and the clever name. So, I bought it.
I should have stuck with the brand I usually used. I should have looked at Tiffanie's cakey eyes and said "pooh-pooh" to the potion.
I was highly disappointed with this product. It goes on watery and slightly oily. I didn't notice any difference with the length of my eye makeup or the saturation of the color. In fact, the next day, I used it on one eye and not the other and at the end of the day, the eye without the potion actually looked better!
So, here's a product I recommend instead of Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion: MAC Paints
Here's what MAC says about their product: "A high tech, high performance eye shadow product which goes on creamy; dries to a powdery finish. It is ideal for colour-intensive, texture-rich looks that need to last. Made with concentrated pearl pigments in a cream colour formulation, the "transformative" abilities of MAC Paints allow for easy application, blendability, and flexibility of coverage. Its transfer-resistant finish creates a smooth, crease-free, slightly shiny, reflective look to the lid."
Works Like Magic November 8, 2008 After years of eyeshadow that disappears by the afternoon, whether expensive or cheap, I was amazed with this product. I got a sample for free with my Sephora purchase last Christmas, and became hooked. My eye make-up stays where I put it until I take it off! It's wonderful. Got oily eyelids? Try this!
Terriffic Product, Bad Packaging October 30, 2008 I have extremely oily lids and this worked worked wonders for me. I give it 4 stars because of the packaging and parabens. I stopped using it and tried Too Faced Shadow Insurance because it has fewer ingredients and parabens and the Urban Decay Primer Potion didn't last long. Too Faced doesn't work as well at controlling the oil so I am switching back to Urban Decay Primer Potion.
I recently learned that a lot of the Primer Potion gets unused because of the bottle's shape, which is why it didn't last long, and it is impossible get to with the applicator. When the bottle runs low take off the stopper to get more product. When when it runs low again cut it in half and there should be enough product to last a couple more months. Google "cut Urban Decay Primer Potion bottle" for instructions. There is a push for Urban Decay to put Primer Potion in a tube to make it easier to get the last drop. I hope they listen.
Fabulous product lousy shape bottle October 25, 2008 This eye makeup primer is fabulous... eyeshadow stays put all day after using. Before my eye makeup would have retreated into the creases but not after application of this primer.
My only complaint would be the shape of the bottle which I know will produce lots of waste.
Totally surprising! October 23, 2008 After visiting Sephora and on a whim asking the sales assistant what would be good for getting rid of eyeshadow creasing she recommended this product. So being slightly skeptical i tried it the next day... so far it's only been two days that i've used it but HOLY COW do i notice a HUGE difference. I have oily skin that gets worse as the day wears on, and today even after walking in the 90 degree heat my fairly thick applied eyeshadow still looks awesome! I'm just returning to wearing makeup after years of not, and this product has helped me renew my love for it! So yes... the 16 bucks is totally worth it... at least for me it has been.
