2 out of 5 stars Not worth the price.   October 9, 2008
I bought this kit after reading the reviews with some excitement. Perhaps my expectations were too high. My skin did not clear up. I got worse breakouts than I had gotten before! (And yes, I used all products as instructed). My advice? Go see your dermatologist before you drop a roll on this product. I have lost all faith in high-priced skin care lines with too-good-to-be-true promises. This was horrible for my skin and for the same price I got a whole regime from my physician that IS working.

5 out of 5 stars It does what it promises   April 18, 2008
This is my first experience with Philosophy's Makeup Optional Kit. It really does what it says it will do. One of the main claims is that it firms the skin. I noticed five minutes after using the products, my skin was somewhat tingly, refreshed, and I definitely felt it was more firm. The only thing I sort of don't like is the product "When Hope is Not Enough" has a petroleum-type smell to it...not appealing. But the results are awesome, and the other products are great. I would definitely order this kit again. :)

5 out of 5 stars Best Ever   April 5, 2008
I love this set. The cleanser gets all your eye makeup off without irritating your eyes. I wear contacts and I can take off my eye makeup and then take my contacts out. Plus it saves you a step and money since you do not need a separate makeup remover.

The moisturizer is the best. It is 95% oil free, which is great because I still break out occasionally and this is very light.

I hope I never have to be without these products.

1 out of 5 stars Not for me!   January 21, 2008

I personally do not like the smell of lavendar, and they have this in every product. Lavendar burns my eyes, and causes me skin problems. I liked the feel of the moisturizer, was so different, fluffy and light, but you could add more if you needed more moisturizer without it becoming too heavy like some will. I liked the facial scrub, you could tell you were using a scrub, and the lavendar was not so strong in this product. I ended up tossing everything in the trash due to the lavendar. It just gets old day after day! I have switched to derma e products, and for the money Philosophy seems to be a tad full of themselves!

5 out of 5 stars A routine I can live with, and one you shouldn't live without!!   December 28, 2007
As a self-admitted skin care junkie, I've found it's always been hard to stay loyal to one brand or product because of the multitude of choices you're presented with on a regular basis. I've used the typical cheaper brands to the high-end costly department store kinds. But I've never found anything I've been happier with than Philosophy, and I've never been one to follow a routine!

The products are extraordinary. The Purity cleanser is the first and only cleanser I've used that does not dry out my skin after washing. My skin has a tendency to be fickle, and is an odd skin type, so for it to not overreact after using the cleanser means I've found a winner. I've never used a serum before, but When Hope is Not Enough is just lovely. It does tend to get a little sticky though after a few rubs, so don't rub in too hard. I mix the Hope & a Prayer with this in the mornings for a vitamin boost. Hope in a Jar is THE best moisturizer I've ever used. Some people might be put off by the fact that it does contain oil, but it's one of the later ingredients, and it lends itself to the fact that your skin will feel unbelievably soft after use. In the mornings I use When Hope is Not Enough SPF because it's less "greasy" and protects me against city pollutants (i.e. Manhattan). If you're an absolute stickler for oil free, Hope in a Bottle will do it for you. I was suprised at how quickly Hope dissolved, as I'm accustomed to most lotions just sliding around my face for awhile.

Some users are put off by the smell of the products. For me, I've never liked anything that was highly perfumed, so these items are perfect. Philosophy tries to minimize scents because fragrances are essentially irritants. They do have a certain smell though, and I'd classify it as a cross between mild lemon, pine, grass, and something medicinal. It's not overwhelming, but if you are sensitive to anything that doesn't smell like roses or has a smell at all, these products may not be for you. Although I like the scents, they do have staying power, so be warned, it'll stay on you for a few hours.

Your skin will never feel better. And your skin is your body's largest organ, so take care of it while you can!
