Amazon.com Wrestlemania 17 may go down as the biggest, most lucrative Pay-Per-View in 2001, but as far as quality goes, many wrestling fans will tell you it was No Way Out, a mere month before Wrestlemania, that showcased the best wrestling of the year. Rarely can a three-hour Pay-Per-View hold your attention throughout, without any down time, but the action-packed NWO does just that. WWF's writers worked up enough soap opera drama to make each of these matches interesting. Whether it's the ultimate cat fight for "female domination" in the WWF, between Stephanie and Trish Stratus, the Rock trying to regain the WWF Championship from a whiny Kurt Angle, or Jerry "the King" Lawler fighting for the Right for Nudity against Steven Richards, NWO never lets up. The culmination of a great evening is the brutal, exhausting, nearly 40-minute battle between Stone Cold Steve Austin and "the Game" Triple H. The men have generated the sickest feud in federation history, and it all comes to a head in a two-out-of-three-falls match. The first fall is a typical one-on-one match; the second is an anything-goes street fight match; and the third takes place in a steel cage. In what should go down as one of the nastiest, liveliest matches in history, both men give the fans everything they have. In a rarity, so does the WWF with this PPV. --Dave McCoy

The best "No Way Out" event in its history. April 23, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Even though WrestleMania X7 went down as the best PPV of 2001, a close second was the event that happened a month prior to it. That event was WWF No Way Out, which not only featured some of the best wrestling matches in one show but the end of one of the best rivalries in the WWF.
Hardcore Champion Raven vs The Big Show. This was a great way to start the show as we get the typical spotfest that we should expect to see in a hardcore match. What made this one stand out was the 24/7 rule coming in effect and allowing the other wrestlers to get their moments in before the match was over.
Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho vs Eddie Guerrero vs Chris Benoit vs X-Pac. This match could be a main event at a now WWE PPV, but back then it was a midcard match. I thought this match was better than the opener as we had a good 20-25 minutes of some solid, fast-paced wrestling action.
Stephanie McMahon-Helmsly vs Trish Stratus. Just when you think the event is about to hit rock bottom(no pun intended), this match turns out to be good. Basically, it is good because it is not the typical womens match with silly catfighting but it was intense and even a few solid moves here and there. The ending was set up perfectly and promises the fued will continue.
3 Stages of Hell: Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Triple H. The first fall was a singles match. The second fall was a street fight. And the third fall was inside a steel cage. This was the match that won match of the year in 2001 and truly is the best match on this card. For over 40 minutes, Austin & HHH beat the living hell out of each other to the point of exhaustion. Words can not describe this classic and if I have to point out one thing bad about this match, it is the obvious blading both men did. Still, I did not think it was the match of the year (for me, Austin/Rock at WM17 is) but this is an awesome match that lived up to the hype.
Steven Richards vs Jerry "The King" Lawler. The story in this match was that if the King wins, the Kat can get naked. But if Steven wins, the Kat has to join the RTC. This is the only match on the card that I was not satisfied with. However, the match itself is not bad at all but it is sub-par with the rest of the events.
Tag Team Champions The Dudley Boyz vs Edge & Christian vs The Undertaker & Kane in a Tables Match. What was up with Taker's outfit? Besides that, this was an out of control brawl that was actually quite enjoyable because it told a story. Taker & Kane were the monsters to be feared, E&C were the cowards who just wanted their belts back, and the Dudleys just want to put someone to a table. Rikishi & Haku almost ruin this one but still the overall match was very good.
WWF Champion Kurt Angle vs The Rock. The promo before this match is one of the funniest ones that I have seen in WWF. As usual, Angle & Rock deliver an awesome main event that was actually much better than the match that they had at No Mercy in 2000. Honestly, the match could have gone either way and that is the way main events should be like. The ending set up the main event at WrestleMania X-7 and if you follow wrestling, you know what it is.
I was so happy that I found this event in my old collection of wrestling tapes because it was events like these that showed that the WWF Attitude Era was the best era in the history of professional wrestling. If only events like these still exist. Highly Recommended.
still remains the best no way out in history!!! April 20, 2008 1) Hardcore title match Raven vs. Big Show: a nice way to kick off the payperview. all kinds of weapons were used and it really became intense halfway through the match when many superstars began interfering. 8/10 2) Y2J vs. Benoit vs. Guerrero vs. Xpac for i.c title: a magnificant fatal 4 way match that just had non-stop action from beggining to end. a technical masterpiece. 9/10 3) Trish stratus vs. Stephanie Mcmahon-helmsley: suprise match of the night that saw both women literally beat the hell out of each other. a great woman's match. 8/10. 4) 3 stages of hell match steve austin vs. triple h: Still remains one of my most favorite matches of all time. this one had everything and anything that a wrestling fan would want. tons weapons, blood, and carnage that will keep u on the edge of your seat. hell of a way to finish this fued. 10/10. 5) jerry lawler vs. steven richards: somehow, unfortunately, i knew that rtc would win this match and i ended up being right. decent match between these two men but nothing worth speaking of. 7/10. 6) dudleys vs. edge & christian vs. undertaker & kane in a triple threat table match for the tag titles: an excellent brawl between these three men, mainly the undertaker and kane who literally beat the s*** out of both teams only to be screwed in the end. 8.5/10. 7) kurt angle vs. the rock for the championship: a hell of a match and the best that i've seen between these two men. big show makes a suprise appearance and the rock ends up going to wrestlemania as champion. 9/10.
All in all, this still remains the greatest no way out as it had something for every wrestling fan to enjoy. definitely worth adding to your collection.
WWF No Way Out 2001: Austin vs. Triple H March 4, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
WWF No Way Out 2001 Las Vegas, Nevada
No Way Out was one of the WWE's best ppv's of 2001!!!!
1. WWF Hardcore Championship Big Show vs. Raven (C) This was a decent hardcore match, lots of title changes though but the Big Show is the one left standing. Winner: Big Show 3/5
2. WWF Intercontinental Championship Chris Jericho (C) vs. Chris Benoit vs. X-Pac vs. Eddie Guerrero Good but not great fatal four way. All four men does a great performance. Winner: Chris Jericho 4/5
3. Trish Stratus vs. Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley In my opinion this was one of the best divas matches in some time. this also had a decent rivalry. The spanking on Trish is funny. match diffantly worth watching a couple of times. Winner: Stephanie McMahon 3.5/5
4. Best 2-out-of-3 Falls Match Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Triple H 1st Fall: Pin Fall Only- This was a great 1st fall. Very fierce and good brawling. Stone Cold wins the fall with the Stone Cold Stunner. 4/5 2nd Fall: Street Fight- This was a great street fight much like their match at Survivor Series 2000 but this one has an ending. Also a 2x4 wrapped in barbed wire that makes an appearance Triple H gets backdrop through the table but comes back to win with the pedigree after hitting Austin with the sledge hammer. Great Fall best of the three. 4.5/5 3rd Fall: Steel Cage Match- This wasn't the best steel cage match and most likely because it was the third fall. Lots of weapons are left in the cage and Austin and Triple H takes a advantage of them. The ending is right too with Triple H falling on Austin to win after both men hitting each other with the sledge hammer(Triple H) and a 2x4 wrapped in barb wire (Austin). 3.5/5 Winner: Triple H 5/5
5. WWF Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Table Match Edge & Christian vs. The Dudleyz (C) vs. The Brothers of Destruction Alright tables match Kane and Taker due much of the work until Rikishi and Haku interfers. Christain gets 3D through the table. Winner: The Dudley Boys 3/5
6. WWF Championship The Rock vs. Kurt Angle (C) This is the one on one rematch for the title that the Rock never got until now. This match was very good not as good as their No Mercy match but very watchable. It took 2 Rock Bottoms to put Angle away and The Rock was on the road to WM 17 to face Stone Cold. Winner: The Rock 4/5
Overall i give No Way Out a 4/5.
Actually it was match of the year December 18, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At the end of 2001 there was a tv show that was called "top ten matches of 2001" and the 2/3 falls match was #1..unfortunately i cant find the damn tape because i taped it
some other matches on the list were tlc2, rock v. austin, jericho benoit ladder match from RR, the lingerie match, angle vs shane from KOTR, triple h vs taker (WMX7), the match triple h tore his quad, the SS main event: 10 man elimination WWF vs wcw/ecw, rvd vs jeff hardy (invasion)
No Way Out 2001 is a 4 star ppv March 26, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
80-76%-perfect 75-71%-awsome 70-66%-good 65-61%-poor 60-56%-awful
1. The Big Show vs. Raven for the hardcore title- This was a good way to kick off the show. I think they should have made the match last a little longer. I think they did a good job with the six minutes they were given and made this non stop action. There were about 5 title changes in 6 minutes. Winner and new wwe hardcore champ the big show. Match Rating 6/10.
2. Y2J vs. Chris Beniot vs. X-Pac vs. Eddie Guerrero- This was a surprise of the night and was up there for match of the night as well. This was non stop action and all of these guys have talent. I think the wwe needs to have one of these every once and awhile and they cant just rely on the main event and they showed it here. Winner Y2J. Match rating 8.5/10.
3. Trish vs. Stephine McMahon- This was another surprise of the night. This was alot better wrestling wise and it told a good story. I was going to get up and use a bathroom break for this one but when it started it was physical and i appulaed the wwe for the work that went on here. Winner Stephine McMahon. Match Rating 6/10.
4. HHH vs. Stone Cold 2 out of 3 falls
1st fall one on one- This fall was rather boring. It had alot to do with hhh working on austins leg and it just wasted to much tim. I think they had the right mind set with it starting out physical but got real boring. Winner of the first fall stone cold. Match Rating 7/10.
2nd fall street fight- this was alot better than the first fall and i was expecting it to be. It started out right away with chairs ring bells barbwire you name it they had it. This one was more back and forth than the first fall. Some nice spots including a back drop through the table. I liked the pace of this match i knew who was going to win the match but it was so exciting and the best out of all falls. Winner HHH. Match Rating 9/10.
3ed fall steel cage- This was better than the first fall but not as good as the 2nd fall. It was about 10 minutes long and i wish i they would have made it a little longer but i understand why they did not. One thing i liked about this cage match that was different than the other ones was because of the street fight they left all the weapons in the ring and it was a little more interesting. Winner HHH. Match Rating 7.5/10.
5. The King vs. Steven Richards- I dont know if u can get much worse than this. I think u can but this match was preatty bad. First off neither of these guys can wrestle and maybe the king could back in the day but there is no chance in hell he can do it this year. Any way horriable match and should have not been on the card. Winner Steven Richards. Match Rtaing 2/10.
6. Kane and the undertaker vs. The dudleys vs. Edge and christian in a tables match for the tag team titles- This was another good match on the card. Of course the table stipulation helped the match alot. There were some nice chair shots in this match and the match started out nice with devon getting throughn off the stage. I wish this would have been a few minutes longer but still good and kind of a bad ending. Winners and still wwe tag team champs The dudley boys. match Rating 8/10.
7. Kurt Angle vs. The rock for the wwe title- this was an awsome way to close off the ppv. I think these men out alot into this match with the 15 minutes they were given even though they sohould have been given more. This was non stop all the way through. The match really picked up when the big show interferred. I was into this match also because of all the near falls and excitment. U will not want to sit down for this match and a good last match as wwe champ for kurt angle. Winner and new wwe champ The rock. Match Rating 9.5/10.
Well that raps up another. I would give no way out a grade of 63.5/90 which is a 70.5% which this means it is anawsome ppv. I think that is a soild rating. I think the one thing that brought this whole rating down was hte kings match but every thing else is at least worth one watch. If you can tell me if my reviwe was helpful or not i would appericate that. thanks for your time.
