 Works incredibly well for our purposes August 30, 2008
Our 5-year-old son responds well to this timer and even reminds us to use it. Usual use in our house: morning routine for school, some meal times, and occasional time out periods. We often change the period of time on the manual timer, so we keep the mini-manual nearby to review reset and other commands. Remembering how to manipulate the timer is a challenge, but the guide is brief and easy to understand. We really love this timer.
Great Product - Not that hard to program. Highly Recommend! August 19, 2008
I have been very impressed with this little timer. As a stay at home mom with three young children, my house has been more organized than ever. My kids are finsihing their responsibilities in record time (along with a cool token chart set up like a chucky cheese reward system).
The timer is easy to program after you remember what buttons to press and it only took me a few times of operating to remember. The timer can be turned off by holding down the menu button for three seconds (as stated in the manual) The timer can be paused by hitting an arrow and restarted by hitting start.
My recommendation would be to have two standard times. You can use a manual and an auto and it is easier to keep using the two times instead of reprograming each time (but not impossible). When using chores, I give them chores that I think can be accomplished in ten minutes or less and constantly use that time. If I feel that they can't make that time and they are working very hard, I will pause it for a while so they won't be sad/penalized when they don't beat the timer.
Overall - This is a great tool to help any mom or teacher!

 Great idea, poor construction July 31, 2008
I orginally bought this product to use as a tool to help my autistic son. I thought this would work well as a visual reminder. I set it up so that he would use his personal hygiene time wisely before school. Once I learned how to operate it (it was challenging) it was indeed helpful to my son. My problem is that this product lasted somewhere around 6-9 months and then quit working. When I bought it I paid much more for it than what Amazon is asking. I like the concept but I don't believe the manufacturer has all the bugs worked out yet. Back to the drawing board!
 Ok but could be better for the price July 10, 2008
We bought this timer for our 3 year old's timeouts. It really does help him with timeout to see the lights flash to tell him when he's almost done.
But, for the price, I would have expected this to be easier to use (to use the Auto timer you have to push three buttons to start on a pre-set time) or be more flexible in programming (you cannot change the order of the lights to go from red to green instead of green to red).

This product concept is great, and when I take the time to set it up, it completely solves any problems we have with transitions. My son loves it and asks for it. Unfortunately, it is a huge pain to set up. Every time you want to change the amount of time on the timer, you have to go through a painful process with lots of button pushing, because you can't set the time without setting all of the options for sound effects and lights. The buttons are hyper-sensitive so sometimes after pressing the buttons 15 times you end up with a "double-click" that you didn't intend and have to start all over. If you always use the same time (5 minutes, for example) then it's no problem. Otherwise you might consider a kitchen timer. It would be a lot easier to use.
