Product Description Brita On Tap 2-Stage Faucet Filter System, Certified To Reduce Chemicals Linked to Cancer Risk: TTHMs, Benzene, TCE, Toxaphene, Eliminates 98.7% Of Lead, Sediment and Chlorine, Attached Easily Without Tools.
Amazon.com Review Brita changed the way we think about water pitchers, and now the company is aiming to do the same with water faucets. The Brita faucet filter system attaches easily to your faucet without tools, and features an electronic LED filter replacement indicator that flashes red when the filter should be replaced. Merely turn on the tap and enjoy fully filtered, fresh-tasting water. Each Brita filter reduces such impurities as cryptosporidium, giardia, lead, asbestos, and benzene, while also eliminating bad tastes and foul odors. In fact, the Brita faucet filter is the most effective Brita filter, more efficient than the company's popular pitcher filter. Users should replace Brita faucet filters every 100 gallons or four months, whichever comes first. --RiversJanssen

New Design Flawed December 15, 2008 I purchased the Brita faucet filter after my previous filter started to leak around the connector. The prior filter was over 2 years old. The replacement filter is a new design and I have to say does make it easier to select between filtered water and stream/spray. The bad news is the adapters for the faucet are now made of plastic with only a few threads. After about a week, my new unit just flew off the faucet. I reattached and a couple days later, the same thing. Frustrated, I contacted Brita about the issue. The service rep, Ashley, was extremely helpful and sent new metal adapters along with a new Brita filter which became stripped. The new adapters have more threads and provide a better connection. If they just packaged those adapters with the product, I would have rated this 5 stars.
Good product, with a few problems. December 13, 2008 I have been through 2 of these units in about 5.5 years. I had to replace them when the 3-way stream selector broke down and would not switch. I wonder if it was due to calcium build-up. I tried dipping it in diluted white vinegar for a few hours, but that did not work either. As I had to replace it anyway, I broke open the unit to try and figure out the problem, but could not break the lower part of the device where the selector switch is located.
I got a new unit last week and now its light has failed completely. I will return and get a new one... Did Brita reduce the quality of the product? Because this did not happen to me before.
I never had any bacteria build up and I clean the unit every time I replace the cartridge. No leakage problems either: I clean the filter that comes right after the tap: particles collected over a period deposit here and if they are cleaned yearly, I do not have any leakage. The cartridge goes for about 4-6 months for us. The 4 stars is only because I think the selector switch goes bad for me probably before its time.
Not what it used to be!!!! December 11, 2008 We bought this Brita filtration system around 10 years ago and have been happy with it -- the filters are easy to replace, give a helpful reminder at replacement time, and the 3-position stream selector is a very nice feature. After more than 10 years of good service, it was time to replace the entire system because the middle "stream" position wasn't shutting off when selecting the "filtered water" position.
I ignored all the bad reviews here because we were familiar with the product, happy with how well it worked, and how long it lasted. BIG MISTAKE.
The new replacement looked identical to our old model. However, as others experienced, I could not get the thing on our faucet! I could take the old one on and off with no problems, but this new model wouldn't stay on.
In addition to not staying on the faucet, the "funnel" underneath the unfiltered part popped off! There was no force involved, and it didn't break... it just came off like it was supposed to be removable, yet couldn't be re-attached. Without this piece, the middle position sprayed water all over the place. I checked the old unit and that same part is impossible to remove.
I spent about 45 minutes trying to get this new Brita to stay on the faucet and work properly, until I gave up and put the old one back on. I don't know why this newer model isn't like the old one -- they look identical. I wonder if Brita changed manufacturing plants, and something got changed in the transition?
I recommend looking for another product over this one, even if you have used the Brita in the past and have been happy with it. After reading similar warnings on the Pur system, I decided to go with the Culligan FM-15A Faucet Filter. It doesn't have the nice 3-way streams or filter replacement reminder that this Brita has, but it's cheaper, the water tastes just as good (maybe better?) and it took about 30 seconds to put on our faucet.
Poor quality control - great customer service October 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The pitcher was not suitable for me, too slow and small fridge with no room. This turned out to be the answer for removing that awful chlorine/aquarium smell/taste of our municipal water. It worked great for about 5 weeks. Then the light started blinking red. No way it needed a cartridge so soon but I dutifully complied (bought 4 replacement cartridges) felt it was still cheaper, more environmentally friendly than lugging bottled water. Two weeks after the filter change the light was dead. As in doornail. I had thrown out my receipt so decided to vent my frustration with "contact us" on the website. I got an email reply that a replacement base unit would be in the mail soon. Received in a week. Hey, great.
But, the replacement did not work properly - though I had a green light, when I tried to get just faucet water, a steady stream kept up through the filter side too. Not good, since hot water when washing dishes would be going through filter. I put the dead light/battery one back on as CS has said there was no danger from a dead battery.
Once again vented frustration by using the "contact us" on website. This time I was emailed with a phone number and case number to talk to someone about the "leak" (what leak, the darn diverter wasn't working!). I was prepared for a long wait but reached a person pretty quickly. He was very knowledgable and likeable and said most of their calls were about dead lights but the diverter thing was rare. He said he would send out a new one and sure enough, I got an entire new unit, filter and base. Haven't tried it out yet. Am still using the dead light one since it works fine except for the light (put a post it on fridge with the date). Will keep as a spare.
My advice, don't bother spending money on this unit with light and sprayer, the light dies way too young and is unreliable in counting. And the sprayer is virtually useless you want to get soaked. Go with the economy unit. Keep your receipt. And don't be afraid to gripe when it breaks down. Their customer service is good even if the mfring quality control stinks.
Works great, until it's time to change the filter September 26, 2008 I loved this system until it was time to change the filter. The indicator light never reset, even after attempting the manual reset procedure several times. A call to customer service got me a brand new system without asking for it, which makes me wonder how many other people had the same problem. Fabulous, until again, it was time to change the filter. Same problem with the new unit. They've offered to replace it again, but this time, I have to send my unit to them before they'll send the new, leaving me without my filtered water until the new one arrives. I think I will give the PUR system a whirl this time.
