2 out of 5 stars Not horrible not good just okay   December 5, 2008
I have owned these headphones for many years now. They are comfortable to wear for about an hour or so, but any longer and my ears start to get uncomfortably hot. They do fold up nicely but they are just too big to be portable in my opinion. The vinyl on the earpads and headband deteriorated and was a little messy but they still work. They are not the best sounding headphones as they produce slightly boomy upper-frequency bass and really lack detail in the midrange but the highs are nice and not too bright. You can get a pair of Sony earbuds for less than half the price that sound much better, provide more isolation, and are a lot lighter. Also, the cord is heavy and tends to make my head lean to the left if it is hanging down in front of me. I still use them occasionally when I don't feel like having earbuds stuck in my ears but there are better choices available for less money.

4 out of 5 stars Owner since 2000 - Very happy with sound - Poor foam covering material   December 4, 2008
Happy owner since 2000 (the model has been around since the mid 90s). These headphones far exceed my expectations. I still have a wonderful listening experience every time I put them on.

Pros:
--Wonderful sound. All I need, plus terrific bass (I'm no audiophile, so for the casual listener you will be satisfied)
--Long, extendable cord
--Comfortable!

Cons:
--The covering material degrades (it took 8 years for this to happen to my headphones). The ear pads and headband pad are made of a soft pleather-like material that has cracked and come off of the foam underneath.:
--Ear pads: These can be replaced with pads that cost $9.95 each (at the time of this posting) from Sony (search their website for the parts department) You can also find other modifications by searching the internet. Some people have just peeled away the material, but I found that to be uncomfortable for the ear pads.
--Headband pad: I could not find a replacement, but one night I gently peeled away all the material exposing the fabric covered foam underneath. They now work great! The fabric is very soft, comfortable and durable. Sony should have just kept this fabric exposed.

Overall, I had to spend little money over 9 years to maintain the headphones by replacing the ear pads. I think that's a bargain considering how well they sound and their upfront price. I recommend these to any casual listener that wants an amazing sound experience.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Headphones   November 17, 2008
I purchased the MDR-V600 years ago and I love them. They were not labled "studio headphones" at the time. They are light, comfortable, and give a full rich sound. I've had my pair for more than a decade and they've held up perfectly with standard use. I missed 4 phone calls already today listening to music with them so I would have to agree that there is very little outside sound intrusion. These headphones are worth the money for both comfort and excellent sound but they were not originally sold as full studio headphones.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product for the Price   October 20, 2008
Great price, comfortable product, fast service...heaven on the ears, oh so soft...love them, use them every day. :-)

1 out of 5 stars plug went bad   October 20, 2008

From the start had to fiddle with plug to get good sound.
At first, I thought it was the computer jack, but as time
went on it got worse and worse. Did some experimenting
and determined it was definitely loose wiring in the plug.

You spend this kind of money you at least expect it to be
manufactured well. I'm done with Sony. I've had other bad
experiences recently, they just aren't what they used to be.
