Get the Dewalt charger December 4, 2008 Got this as a replacement battery for my B&D Firestorm tools which are still working after 10 years. I followed other reviewers' advice and got the Dewalt DW9116 charger for under $13 plus shipping, to replace my B&D chargers, both of which died. Some have been looking for instructions for the DW9116, especially about tune-up mode.
When you insert the battery in the DW9116, the red light will blink, indicating the battery is charging. After an hour or so, the light will stay on, indicating the battery is charged. If you leave the battery in the charger, the charger automatically goes into tune-up mode, which can take up to 8 hours. The light will go out when tune-up mode is complete. You can remove the battery at any time during tune-up.
Some DeWalt chargers may come with a tune-up button, which you of course must press to start tune-up mode.
If you get long-and-short flashes, it may mean the battery is too hot or too cold to charge. Wait until the battery reaches room temperature.
Two short flashes, a pause, two short flashes, a pause, etc., means there is a problem with the AC power. This may be for when the charger is powered by a portable generator, but might also occur if there's a problem with your home or job site AC power. Hope this helps.
Great product October 13, 2008 I purchased this battery as a replacement and what a difference it made. After trimming a dozen bushes, it still had power to spare.
Power To Spare! October 8, 2008 I purchased two of these units for my hedge clipper. They hold a charge for a long time and are ready to use again in a couple of hours.
As advertised September 20, 2008 Just what I needed, ordered and received. Works great. What else can one ask for!
Fine I suppose as I have no way to charge it August 30, 2008 I bought a DeWalt Model 9116 charger because so many people in the reviews recommended it for this B&D Battery . As Soon as the charger arrived, without any info. or instruction manual , I looked on the Internet for one . There was none there . It was not even listed on the offical DeWalt site . I did find that this charger had been RE-CALLED, due to the risk of a shock hazard . I have received several bad reviews or comments of my review about this charger , most sarccastic ones, but this does not change the fact that I copied and pasted the RE-CALL info. exactly as I found it , in a review I wrote about the DW9116 . This Charger from LOCOMODEM, which cost only 11.95 as compared to some places charging as much as 65 to 80 dollars , on the Internet should have been my warning that this company bought and sold , in bulk form, the old bad and dangerous chargers . How else could you explain the much ,lower price, the lack of a manual, and the packaging in a plain unmarked box ? Anyway, this charger completely ruined the almost new batteries I already had . Anyone not believing me deserves what they get too, if they listen to the reviews and don't look for the RECALL info. or read it in my review of the DeWalt 9116 Charger . I will assume the Battery is OK , since it came only partially charged , after the Charger arrived . I wouldn't risk ruining an almost 32 dollar battery in this piece of junk Charger . I will wait until I can order a B&D charger, made for this battery . If you don't believe my review or the info. I pasted , simply put into Google the phrase " DW9116 Battery Charger Recall" and see for yourself . I have no reason to lie and will leave it to your descretion . I will never make a purchase from any SELLER on Amazon again, and unless it is sold by Amazon I won't even consider purchasing it. I have been screwed by SELLERS on Ebay and now Amazon and will never let it happen again . PS: The chargers were supposed to be repaired and some who liked them may have gotten one of these . I certainly did not , and ruined over 120 dollars worth of batteries for my mistake .
