Amazon.com The remanufactured TRU-8885-3 cordless phone system offers an attractive bundle of features with room to grow. The system operates on the 5.8 GHz frequency, which is able to offer clearer, more intelligible reception than cordless phones working on the more-crowded 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz bands. More significantly, the system--which comes with three cordless handsets and a pair of spare charging cradles--can be expanded up to 10 total handsets using only a single phone jack, so you can place handsets in virtually any room in the home for the ultimate in telephone access. Ideal for large families or large households, the TRU-8885-3 keeps you connected at all times. The phone's caller ID/call waiting function (subscription required) displays the name and number of an incoming caller even when you're on the phone with someone else. This function is particularly useful for busy phone users who anticipate important calls but don't want to interrupt their conversations unless absolutely necessary. In a related vein, the phone's base includes a 100-number caller ID log, while each handset stores up to 100 locations, so you can keep track of incoming calls and store the most important phone numbers for easy recall. And thanks to the display-and-dial function, all you have to do to call a stored number is scroll to the number and press the Talk button. Other handy dialing extras include 10 speed dial presets for quick calls to friends, family, and the local pizza joint and an alphabetical search feature that makes it easy to locate numbers stored in the internal memory. The digital answering system, meanwhile, employs microchip technology--no cassettes or moving parts--to deliver crisp, easy-to-decipher messages time and again. Voice prompts help guide you through setup, while play/stop, skip, delete, and repeat keys make it simple to navigate through the messages. Other answering system features include 12 minutes of recording time, a four-minute maximum message length, memo and conversation recording, a new message indicator, and remote message retrieval. New parents will appreciate the room/baby monitoring setting, which lets you hear audio from another handset location. And home business owners will dig the four-way conference calling, which links two cordless handsets with the base unit and an outside line. Add in easy-to-use menu-driven LCD displays and a page button that makes it a breeze to find a lost handset and you have a versatile phone system that excels in almost any household. Additional functions include handset and base speakerphones, a DirectLink (walkie-talkie) mode, an integrated intercom, a handset-to-handset transfer function, and independent handset and ringer controls that let you adjust volume levels to your liking. Finally, the TRU-8885-3's cordless handsets are compatible with separately sold headsets for hands-free communication. And as with all Uniden remanufactured phones, the wall-mountable system is backed by a 30-day limited warranty. What's in the Box Base, three cordless handsets, two extra charging cradles, three belt clips, three battery packs, three AC adapters, telephone cord, user's manual.

More than I asked for !!! April 12, 2008 These phones are really nice. It takes a while to program numbers but once done it's very nice. I'm disabled and they save me a lot of hassles, trying to get to a phone and they can stay plugged in and charged. The base unit is also a phone.
Best of Four April 1, 2008 I bought this model after returning two other manufacturers' phones and trying a third. Returned a Panasonic and a Vtech for poor sound quality. Disappointed because have had very good experiences with those brands, but we wanted an expandible portable at 5.8 Ghz so not to interfere with our home network. Tried a Motorola at a R.Sh**k and it takes the award for worst sound of the bunch. Bought the Uniden, and were impressed with the sound quality - Excellent, as compared to poor, bad and terrible. The bonus was the list of features that work well and are well-thought-out, as mentioned in other reviews. After three years, one battery is not charging well, and we are pleased that replacements can be found for less than $10!
Terrible Phones, Referb or Not March 24, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
At this moment I'm looking for a replacement for this exact phone. When I saw these reviews it seemed only fair to warn others as to why these are refurbished. Out of the box (new & not refurbished) I had trouble getting the phones to communicate with the base and they refused to 'deregister' also. Uniden has you send them back and they send you a referb in their place. All these phones end up referbs!
In addition I had nothing but trouble with their support manager who kept sending non working refrebs with the same problem as the one sent in. We ended up filing a dispute with Mastercard over continuous back and forth sending of used non-working phones that failed to arrive or function, and Uniden in turn claimed were not returned which were. It was like going into battle dealing with Uniden. Wound up keeping the only two I could get to function after they wore me down, and today must replace them because the headset jacks either cut in and out or make a horrific high pitched sound which can be heard by both parties. At this point people cringe when I call them for knowing this about our phones.
The good news gets only worse. There are few truly good cordless phones on the market being as so many people have turned to cell phones, even less of these phones are full featured. They either lack back lit keys, keypad on the base (for times when you need to press 2 for this, 3 for that, 4 to hear options again, and must take the handset away from you face to do so), hard wired handset on the base, and any number of conveniences or rudimentary functions one might expect in a decent phone. Wish me luck as Panasonic and Vtech appear to be the only viable options out there... I've already had 2 different Uniden models and can attest they are nicely designed, almost full featured, but not well manufactured, and their support is snake oil.
At least I'm willing to relate truth about this phone, for those who buy them anyhow and regret it, don't say you weren't warned! We've replaced them with our previous choice of Panosonic phones which actually work without any of these problems.
Remanufactured Uniden Cordless Phone System January 7, 2008 I was a bit concerned about this being a factory refurbished system, but my concerns were completely unfounded. I couldn't be more pleased with these phones and the vast array of features and settings they offer. It works great, after all, it's still a Uniden system! A great deal all around!
My Favorite cordless phone August 31, 2007 I love this phone and can hardly imagine any other. I live out in the country with 3 acres of land and can use it anywhere in my yard. When buzy I just use the speaker phone or the Headset. I also put the base or handset by the radio or TV and take the other handset out with me and still listen using the "Room Monitor". I also love checking massages from the handset. The handset displays the time as well as caller ID. The Direct Link is a fantastic feature; When away from home, just give a handset to each person in the party and contact them by pressing 1-9, without using cell phone minutes. I love this phone so much and currently owned this model but with only 2 handsets and purched this one with 3 handsets. In my opinion, finding a phone better would be practically an infaninate impossibility.
