Amazon.com Review Any person that has ever tried to slice the golden crust of a baguette with a paring knife, or to peel an apple with a chef's knife, knows the importance of stocking a wide variety of cutlery in the kitchen. A single recipe may require four or five different knives to cut, dice, and slice with efficiency and ease. To cover this wide gamut, Ginsu offers a new comprehensive cutlery set. From the International Traditions cutlery line, the 14-piece set comes equipped with a 3-1/2-inch paring knife, 4-1/2-inch utility knife, 5-inch boning knife, 8-inch slicer, 8-inch chef's knife, 8-inch bread knife, six 4-1/2-inch steak knives, kitchen shears, and knife block. With this wide variety of blades, the set makes a wonderful housewarming gift for a young family establishing their first household. The blade of each knife was forged from Japanese 420 series stainless steel with full tang for increased balance and permanence. The hygienic stainless-steel construction resists rusting, staining, and corrosion. The craftsmen at Ginsu employ a specialized Symmetric Edge technology, notching matching serrations on both sides of the blade for enhanced precision and smoothness for left- and right- handed users alike. The balanced two-dimensional serration eliminates the need for sharpening these knifes. Stainless-steel handles are curved to provide an ergonomically-friendly hold for chefs. The knife block features sturdy hardwood construction to protect knives and permit quick access while cooking. For cleaning convenience, the knives are dishwasher- safe. Ginsu covers the set with a limited lifetime warranty. The knife block measures 8-1/2 by 6 by inches. Great Quality October 6, 2008 Very nice set. Looks great in any kitchen. The sissors, however, are cheap-looking compared to the knives. You would expect more. I replaced the sissors with a pair from another knife set. The knives are definately a great buy.
Sharp knives, makes you love cooking! October 1, 2008 I love this knife set, I'd had these for over a month. They were much cheaper than the ones I was looking at at Target and Kohls.
I read the other reviews for this set and always dry them by hand before putting them back in their black holder. I don't want these to tarnish! They look great in the kitchen and work wonderfully. I'm actually very picky when it comes to these items in my kitchen and I was very surprised and pleased with their functionality and appearance. I'd buy this set again (in case tarnishing does occur), but only of course if the tarnish does not appear within the first year. If this does tarnish on you the first year, then don't repurchase.
Happy with my purchase September 30, 2008 I purchased my knife set a few weeks ago and they are great. I wash the knives by hand and dry them immedialty. I read some reviews were people out them into a washing machine and they rusted so I wont do that. It takes a second to just wash and put it away. If I get any other emails asking for an update I will let you guys know but this is a great knife set. Cuts nicely and I no longer cut my fingers with a dull knife.
Wow! These are great! September 26, 2008 I literally said "wow" when I first cut into a potato! It was so smooth and easy...My set came with a complimentary Santoku knife - and wow ... everything -from potatoes and apples and onions - just became 100x easier to cut. The bread knife is great - it cut through one of those "natural" homemadish loaves without leaving a heap of crumbs underneath, and the smaller knives are great too. I'm haven't sampled any of those more expensive sets, but I am an avid cook - and these knives just made cutting everything in my kitchen so much easier and more fun. Watch out though, they are sharp! I've cut myself twice already =(... no complaints though, these really are wonderful ...
Also, I have put them in the dishwasher and haven't noticed any rust spots.
Heavy and rusty September 22, 2008 I bought this set seeing an overall good user review. The cons I can see are: * Seems a bit heavy to me. * The knives also don't seem that much sharp. The serrated blades are not helpful for me. I find the the Santoku knife helpful though for regular use. * After getting them out of dishwasher, I could see yellow stains, though it says dishwasher safe.
