SO COOL! September 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is my favorite G-Shock so far. The case is old school style. And the reverse display gives it a unique twist. The EL illuminator lights up the numbers only in blueish green-how cool. It has world time mode-will display time in any zone with largest city in that zone abbreviated in display. The 1/100 second stopwatch measures up to 24 hours.--This watch sometimes is described as having a 1/1000 sec stopwatch that measures up to 999 hours. It doesn't. There's a countdown timer that has a capacity of 1 hour. It has no trouble receiving a signal from atomic clock in Colorado even indoors. I live about 1,000 miles from the transmitter. It's solar powered, so if it's exposed to light on a regular basis, it should stay charged. All of my Tough Solar G-Shocks hardly see sunlight. Most of the time they're under indoor lighting, and they stay charged. Just put it in the sun for a few hours when you first get it. The bracelet has a deployment clasp, not a buckle. The composite plastic bracelet makes the watch fairly light weight. It's very comfortable on the wrist. Removing links is easy. There are spring bars not pressure pins holding the links together. And there are 4 regular alarms and 1 snooze alarm. And the hourly chime of course.
Great watch January 15, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
For me, this is a great watch. It has all the features I could ever need. It sets itself, never needs a battery replacement, has 4 alarms, and is very stylish. The black watch face is not difficult to read if you have good eyes. It is worthwhile to note that the band is not completely resin; its links are half metal. B/c of this I was initially surprised, but I enjoy the look and feel of the watch better with this type of band construction. Also, it has a cool feature called Auto Light, where, if the watch is in a dark place, it will illuminate when you tilt the watch towards your face. Overall, I am 100% satisfied with this purchase.
Brighter is better January 12, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Good timepiece with easy to understand and utilize functions. Satisfied purchaser. Delivery was spectacular. Package was well packed and arrived in amazingly rapid time before Christmas. Congratulations! One small concern is that the brightness of the numerals and display is not as depicted, requiring a suitable incidence angle of external light to be seen clearly. The EL function and management is good though.
Somewhat of a disappointment... September 28, 2007 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
OK... so this is not a Cartier Tank or Rolex watch, but it comes packaged in a flimsy cardboard wrapper, mounted on a crappy plastic holder, kind of like you see sold by Nigerian street vendors in NY, but for a negotiable ten bucks, not $100.
OK, the 'covering' is unimportant, but the watch itself was a disappointment. The picture displayed is the watch face illuminated. In its normal state, the face displays a dark beige lettering on its black background -- very difficult to see without bright lighting. Then, even with adequate light, it can be hard to see because of reflections. The band is huge; it spins around my wrist and needs to be resized. The documentation (manual) is a thick, 3 X 2 inch booklet with what I'd guess is 4 pt type, for which I need a magnifying glass to read -- and you MUST carefully read the instructions to operate this thing. Typically, the manual is written in that style reserved for lawyers, politicians and tech writers, where clarity is avoided.
After several failed attempts, I found the one window position in my home which works most times to connect to the Colorado atomic clock. I think the times it displays an error is due to atmospheric interference.
Depite all, I like the look -- this is a handsome, manly, casual watch. So far, I've only set one alarm and that is very dependable. The watch gets plenty of sunshine, so its always at maximum charge. If there is a way, I haven't figured out yet how to extend the time the face illuminates; two seconds is not enough time for these old eyes to focus.
In short, if you've got 20/20, big bones and a taste for sporty, masculine attire, this may be for you.

Thought to add my G-Shock has been updating successfully whilst I sit in my livingroom watching TV, well away from windows. Go figure. My guess is that our weather (or my mood) has improved and affords an improved connection to the atomic clock. Glad to see Amazon has replaced the primary image with one that accurately represents the watch face appearance.
GREAT watch - stylish if you like 80's retro greek chic February 12, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Depending on your personal sense of style, this could be the perfect watch. I've owned it for over a month and couldn't be happier.
This watch features the original Casio G-shock design, circa 1983. If it were an exact replica it would be pretty unremarkable, but this model features a reverse display, giving it a darker, edgier look. Add advanced solar power technology and atomic timekeeping (in most of the continental US and Japan) that updates three times a day and you have an extremely durable watch that will always display the correct time (down to the second) and theoretically run forever.
For around $100 it's a great value for the money as well, especially since Casio sells other G-shock models with less features for a lot more money.
