Good reason to be cautious: October 26, 2008 Yes, it is true what was said about the ballast by a previous reviewer. I purchased my Lincoln Park Torchiere for $50 last year, as it was the 55 watt, highly efficient, bright bulb I was seeking in a nice floor lamp with a 3-year warranty to boot (shopping on a budget, no less).
A previous purchase just like this one has been used for over 6 years without fail. Now I find that after replacing the bulb and verifying the socket power, that it is the ballast that has failed. I am now having difficulty finding a ballast to purchase to get it working again.
I will call the Customer Service Center at 800-291-8838 to see what they will do for me, as I'm covered under warranty. They will have to provide me with several new ballasts if I am to keep using this with a repetitive failure issue. The alternative is getting a refund to use for a better design.
NOTE: This is the ONLY dimmable (variable) ballast made by American Lighting Technologies according to the manufacturer's downloadable Excel spreadsheet.
Brilliant illumination October 7, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
These lights are wonderful; clean, white, light that illuminates dark corners of the room effortlessly. If only they took the super-energy-efficient bulbs, they would be perfect. At 55 watts, they're a little too greedy for 2008.
Better than expected October 6, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was looking for some replacement torchiere lamps for my wife's home-office. I wanted something that matched the trim (white), was at least as bright as the old one, and, while stylish, was not distracting. This lamp exceeded my expectations on all fronts; I've already ordered a second one.
Delicate assembly, great lighting September 16, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought 4 of these floor lamps, 2 black and 2 white. They provide excellent room lighting, using energy-efficient bulbs and are perfect for a room that has no other overhead lighting. The white ones were much trickier to assemble. There are four sections to be screwed together and they must be perfectly aligned or the threads cross. You cannot undo the connection without stripping the threads. The white ones didn't line up as well, seemed possibly lighter in substance than the black. I wondered if they were manufactured in a different factory. You also must be very careful in moving them around; they get out of line easily. If you are very careful in assembling, you'll have a good lamp at a low price. I love the style and they look great in my house.
Ballast fails with first lamp September 16, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought five of these units and all failed before rated time of first lamp. I tried new lamps in all five but its the ballast that fails. It works well for a while then the light is slow to come on than will not start at all.
