View video. | More Effective Than Flossing -- Without the Discomfort Most dental professionals recommend brushing and flossing to keep your teeth and gums their healthiest. Unfortunately, a large number of Americans -- nearly 80-percent -- don't floss on a regular basis, and most studies have shown that most people find flossing to be a painful or unpleasant chore. Waterpik has created an effective alternative to flossing that feels great and is simple to use. Pulsating Streams for Healthier Teeth and Gums The Waterpik Ultra Cordless Dental Water Jet goes beyond flossing to keep your teeth and gums healthy and clean. Waterpik has designed the WP-450 to deliver precisely controlled pulsating streams of water pressure to remove debris and bacteria lodged deep between teeth and below the gumline. In fact, it has been shown that the WP-450 can clean three times deeper than brushing alone. In addition, it massages and stimulates the gums to improve circulation. The WP-450 helps promote strong and health gums, leaving you with a clean, fresh mouth sensation. According to Waterpik, there are over 50 published clinical studies that show the Waterpik Dental Water Jet provides significant oral health benefits for anyone who desires healthier teeth and gums. These studies also show that the WP-450 is especially effective for those who have braces, implants, crowns, bridges, and other dental work. For these reasons, Waterpik is one of the most recommended brands by dental professionals. Design Features and Cleaning Accessories Oral health benefits aside, the Waterpik WP-450 is also a complete device that is loaded with lots of great features. It includes four color-coded tips: - Jet Tip: Provides cleaning deep between teeth and below the gumline.
- Orthodontic Tip: Excellent for cleaning around braces.
- Pik-Pocket Tip: Delivers extra gentle deep cleaning below the gumline.
- Tongue Cleaner: Removes bacteria that causes bad breath.
The WP-450 also features an advanced ergonomic handle that is smaller than previous models and easier to hold. Refilling the reservoir is simple and can be completed in a snap, and since this dental water jet is rechargeable, you'll never need to buy new batteries. What's in the Box Waterpik WP-450 Ultra Cordless Dental Water Jet, reservoir, and four color-coded tips (Jet Tip; Orthodontic Tip; Pik-Pocket Tip; and Tongue Cleaner).

Great overall, few flaws November 17, 2008 I was always sceptic about the waterpick versus flossing. But this product does work the same and maybe even better. It does get the teeth very clean, in every little pocket. I have braces and it works great around them with the standard tip. No more touching the gross floss :)) Pros: Gets the teeth sparkling clean. Period. Cons: The tip DOES rotate easily, like other reviewers mentioned. Not sure if it's a safety issue, but it is rotating way too easy. Workaround - I just hold it by the tip instead of the body and regulate it. The tank does empty very fast, but the workaround - just keep the faucet running and from time to time just fill in the water without stopping, just bend low :) It works fine and saves time.
This device is a joke...and you're the punchline November 8, 2008 $52 at the local Walgreen's. I took it back the very next day. Plenty of other posts detail the device's shortcomings. The engineering was abysmal and WaterPik evidently decided it was better to try and unload it in the marketplace and embarrass itself, than to suck it up, work out the bugs, and roll out an adequate model. I first used WaterPik as a teenager when I had braces. But there is a vastly superior system that was designed by a French dentist, Dr. Woog. Don't laugh. It has 5 jet streams instead of WaterPik's 1. It's what WaterPik would evolve into if they really cared about quality. The 'Woog Periosystem' went out of business 20(?) years ago but somebody purchased the patent and still makes them. On to the internet search engine.
Almost perfect October 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The jet is powerful enough to clean between teeth and massage the gums. I noticed an improvement with my teeth and gums within one week. The only drawback I found is that the setting of the pick turns too easily and away from the direction one intends. If that gets fixed then it's five stars.
Love this portable Waterpik October 10, 2008 When I first took this cordless Waterpik out of the box, I thought, "What good can this do?" Then I tried it and I love it! It travels easily, holds a charge for up to a week, and is a pretty powerful little tool. I wear braces, so this has really been a life-saver for me. I keep it at work and use it daily after lunch.
A Solution to the "battery" problem. September 20, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have had two rechargable Waterpiks. Both had the same problem. After about 5 or 10 months the unit gradually loses the ability to charge up. Most users assume that the battery became defective.
I really need this thing so I decided to look into it and found that the battery in each case was fine. What happens is that the connector on the charging cable gradually deteriorates. This might be due to getting wet repeatedly combined with corrosion and deposits. The inside of the female part of the connector gets get eaten away and actually gets larger in diameter. The electrical connection deteriorates and finally becomes unusable. As a result the battery no longer gets recharged.
I found that the "AdaptaPlug" connector system available at Radio Shack has the same pin diameter and pin spacing. By whittling some plastic away I made a better connector from the Radio Shack parts and now the Waterpiks work like new.
The part numbers of the Radio Shack connectors needed are: Male: 273-1742 Female: 273-1743
