Amazon.com Product Description Seventh Generation 2X Laundry Concentrate is tough on dirt but gentle on your clothes and the environment. This non-toxic, biodegradable, and phosphate-free laundry concentrate is specially formulated for high-efficiency and standard machines and is completely free of all irritating and potentially harmful scents. Completely Natural Cleaning Power for Your Clothes Seventh Generation 2X Laundry Concentrate is tough on dirt and stains, while being completely free of phosphates, optical brighteners, bleach and other ingredients that are harmful for your and your environment. This concentrate is made from a low-foaming blend of naturally derived cleaning agents (coconut-derived surfactants, glycerin), natural water softeners, alkalinity builders, and anti-redeposition agents (sodium citrate, borax), non-animal-derived enzymes to remove protein and starch stains and protect fabrics, plant-derived anti-foaming agents (glycerol monooleate, oleic acid), and cleaning enhancers (calcium chloride). Non-toxic, hypo-allergenic, biodegradable, and Kosher-certified, Seventh Generation 2X Laundry Concentrate is completely phosphate- and dye-free, is safe for septic and greywater systems, and has never been tested on animals. What's Wrong with Phosphates and Optical Brighteners Phosphates are natural minerals that, when used in detergents, can reduce water hardness, which allows the detergent's soap to clean more effectively, and prevent dirt from being redeposited back onto the items being cleaned. However, once the phosphates are released back into the environment via household wastewater, the results can be disastrous to the environment. Phosphates encourage algae growth, which directly leads to a decrease in the oxygen supply in water ways--a situation that can ultimately leads to the deaths of living organisms, and eventually the entire waterway. Similarly, optical brighteners have long been used to clean our laundry. They help mask any yellowing that may be present in the treated material and makes the material seem brighter and whiter than it would otherwise naturally appear to the eye by creating an enhanced "whiter-than-white" surface that doesn't get clothes any cleaner but simply makes them look that way. Many of the chemicals in optical brighteners, however, are toxic to fish and other aquatic life, are slow to degrade, and can cause mutations in bacteria. And in terms of human health, exposure to optical brighteners, which remain on laundry by design, can cause eye irritations and skin reactions in sensitive individuals. Why Clean Naturally? Unlike many conventional laundry concentrates detergents, the Seventh Generation 2X Laundry Concentrate does not create unpleasant fumes, will not leave harmful residues, and is safer for the environment. Plant-derived cleaners are made from renewable resources rather than from petroleum. Studies show that making household cleaners from plant-derived materials uses less energy than making the same cleaners from petroleum. Using less energy helps reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. If every household in the U.S. replaced just one bottle of 50-ounce 2X petroleum-based liquid laundry detergent with the Seventh Generation 2X Laundry Concentrate, we could save 233,000 barrels of oil, enough to heat and cool 13,400 U.S. homes for a year! Additionally, thousands of tons of phosphates and other harmful chemicals will be removed from our ecosystem. Also, concentrated laundry detergents come with great environmental benefits. Each bottle of 2X concentrated detergent is half the size of a bottle of regular laundry detergent and washes the same number of loads. In addition to requiring less fuel to ship the detergent to you, the entire manufacturing process is more efficient--using less water, less packaging, and less fuel. Free & Clear of Fragrances--Because You Want it That Way Our sense of smell is powerful and evocative. Experiencing a scent unfold can transform our mood, transport us to distant places, or connect us through a shared experience. But many people are sensitive to fragrances or dyes, or prefer unscented products. This Free & Clear Laundry Concentrate is made entirely without fragrances. Many conventional products call their products "free," but in fact mask the smell of their surfactants (detergents) with added fragrances. Seventh Generation products are truly free and clear of added fragrances, and have been confirmed to be hypo-allergenic through independent testing. About Seventh Generation Seventh Generation offers a complete line of natural household products designed to work as well as their traditional counterparts, but use renewable, non-toxic, phosphate-free, and biodegradable ingredients as often as possible, and are never tested on animals. Seventh Generation products are healthy and safe for the air, the surfaces, the pets, and the people in your home--and for the environment outside of it. Every time you use Seventh Generation products you make a difference by saving natural resources, keeping toxic chemicals out of the environment, and making the world a safer place for this and the next seven generations.

Great for allergies! November 16, 2008 I bought some at a local store as I have had rashes off and on for 7 months. It cleans the clothes real good. A little bit goes a long way. I am pleased to find a liquid that is safe for front loaders (He rated) as I don't like powders. It is pricy so I will continue to buy it locally for only a few cents more a bottle than on line. That way I don't have to buy so many at once.
Fades colors first time using it!!! October 14, 2008 One star for cleaning my cloths One star for environmentally friendliness.
Minus 3 stars for fading $100 worth of my nice cloths.
I just moved into a house with a septic tank and wanted to buy something that could easily decompose and not cause any problems. My first load of laundry came out looking 1 year older, i didnt know what caused it. Im quite certain this detergent bleeds the dark colors out. Also, some of my underwear came out looking stretchy, but that coulda been my machine, or maybe i had it in the dryer too long, i dont know, i just know it fades colors, i confirmed that twice!!! Too bad, i really wanted this to work!
Pricy and not so great! October 9, 2008 We have purchased this product as well as some others such as Mrs. Myers organic laundry detergents. And have run into the same problems with all of them. They cost significantly more, and you have to use a lot of it to get anything "clean"! They dont seem to clean nearly as well as regualr detergents, and for sure, don't get any stinch out of clothing! Even when pre-treated with vinegar and baking soda! We are a military family, and most of our loads are soiled and stinky, as well as large or extra large in size. So, you have to use at least a cap full, if not more for the size load (following the instructions on the back) and it just dosen't come out clean. I do not think that this product is worth the price for such small amounts of cleaner, and to us, it just dosen't clean our clothing.. So we will not be purchasing this or Mrs. Myers products cleaners again. At least not for clothing.
Great Detergent! September 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been using this detergent for at least a decade if not longer, but I have a whole new appreciation for it after my daughter rolled in the dirt while wearing new white pajamas. (Don't ask. Just chalk it up to very poor judgement on both parents' parts.) They were FILTHY. I washed them in cold water using this stuff and they came out looking like new. I'd really given up hope on the pajamas, they were so dirty. But Seventh G came to the rescue!
I've had great luck using this stuff on colored clothing too. I noticed someone said the detergent faded their colors, but I've never had that problem and we have a lot of black clothing. We tend to do a lot of our laundry in cold water, and this detergent seems to excel in cold washes. I think cold washing is partly what has kept our clothing looking newer longer. That and air-drying rather than running things thru the dryer.
This is a great all-around detergent IMHO and I'll continue to use it for years to come.
Fabulous detergent, but maybe not by mail... September 9, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love this laundry detergent, hands down, no complaints.
I will think twice before ordering it from Amazon again though - I opened the box to find that one (or more) of the bottles had leaked, just a little, all over the box. I had to wash all the bottles before I could put them away. I'm sure the tape around the cap helps keep most of the detergent in, but some still managed to leak out. Next time, I will probably just purchase this detergent at the grocery store.
